I am a member of Assemble, a multi-disciplinary collective working across architecture, design and art.
I work primarily on designing workspace, and currently part of the team delivering a new-build and renovation of artists' live-work accommodation in Hammersmith. Recently, I curated and coordinated the Architecture Rooms at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2024 under the theme 'Spaces for Making'.
Spaces for Making
The Architecture Rooms at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition 2024
Two rooms, one designed to reference the archival back-of-house storage spaces of studios, the other like a working makers' space.
Platform, mirrors and deep red wall colour recycled from the previous exhibition in the space; woodworking and stonemasonry furniture lent generously by the Building Crafts College for use as plinths; hand-painted colour swatches made with leftover paint from the adjacent rooms; off-the-shelf pallet racking, wall brackets and pegboard with pink-dyed fire rated MDF bought in as simple lean finishes, with flexibility for a life after the show in active workspaces.
Durham Wharf
A project to rebuild a collection of artists’ studios, informal gallery spaces and accommodation at Durham Wharf, the former home and principal workspace of the artists Julian Trevelyan and Mary Fedden.
The approach is one of collage: a binding together of existing and proposed building fabric through removal, repair, erasing and overlaying. Materials used here are lean and simple, allowing the future users of the building to customise and inhabit the spaces themselves
The clay tile and lime render for the facade was developed with Local Works Studio and made from recycled building and ceramic waste.
The Stringer Factory
A proposal for the long-term development of an existing warehouse building into a workspace and metalworking educational facility.
Dairy Road Industrious Neighbourhood
Two multistorey workspace buildings designed as part of a wetland in Canberra. Constructed from simple, standardised elements the awnings act as shading devices for the large-scale facades.
